I didn't catch that the forums were closing until now. My two cents.

Forums are the best format for actually discussion and I hate that everyone's abandoning them. Everything else seems like yelling at the masses and hoping it doesn't get drowned out (social sites like Twitter and Facebook are the epitome of this). On traditional forums, even if your post gets buried, it's easily found if you search for it. Not the case for other formats (Reddit's vote-based display is cancer, Discord forces you to join to even view content, etc).

In other words, goodbye forever, everybody, guess I won't be joining future discussions.

The level of drama in this thread is wild, as is the continued implication that we're "abandoning" the forum in favor of other platforms. I'm going to use you as an example here since yours is the last post but this is by no means specific to you and applies to the forum as a whole. Before today, your last post here was in mid-October - nearly 8 months ago. The simple fact is that forums, with rare exceptions, are dead and very unlikely to make any kind of meaningful return. For the record, Dazz and I both still love and prefer this format but it makes no sense to continue to maintain outdated and infrequently updated software that nobody is using. The Discord is there for those that want to chat and we'll be pushing the wiki a lot harder in the future for the sake of searchable (and far more permanent) information sharing and documentation. With those two things in mind and the fact that extremely few people even still visit here, let alone post, led to the decision to ultimately retire the forum when the new site launches. It will be archived and left online so nothing posted here will be lost - you just won't be able to post or register here after that date.

This seemed like the best compromise though we're willing to listen to reasonable alternatives. And in the event that forums ever did make some kind of comeback, we're certainly not against creating a new one on more modern software.

Maybe I shouldn't have opened this thread   cause it's been stated like 100 times by now that they aren't closing it in favor of other sites they're closing it because it's too much to deal with for how little it's used now

I haven't even been here for 3 months yet and the forums are going to close down? Welp.

The Bodybuilding Misc forums got shut down back in September 2024 with zero justification so, I'm glad the staff here are keeping up to date with us with what's going.

And they are upfront and telling us what's going on. I mighty appreciate that.

But, who knows - I can see you guys change your minds and reopen them up in the future.

I have 1 more concren on closing the formus & making it read only in favor of discord than the fact that the DYKG discord server has a bunch of larpers in it. Both of them beding from the European Union.

What if EU decided to ban discord in all of Europe (This'll affect Dazz, since he's British)? That'll be a bad thing since if the DYKG staff did close the forums & makes it read only roight now and the EU pass the law that'll officially ban discord, how will the European DYKG community members get to communicate with each other outside of the forums?

I hope that was obvious enough to not be missed again. Both the forum and the Discord have existed side by side for nearly a decade. Discord's existence has literally nothing to do with the closure of the forum - it's just time for it to go as it's old, almost abandoned code that almost nobody uses. Forums would be just as much a target as Discord would be for the law you're referring to anyway so it's really not something that's worth considering in this context. But in the worst-case, the site will still provide a method for members to email one another which means even in your worst-case scenario, communication doesn't just die entirely.

Also, this isn't even a DYKG forum - not sure how its closure affects DYKG's community in any way?

In actuality, this forum constitutes a breach of the OSA. That right, currently, I could be prosecuted because we have left the forum open. Discord operates it's servers and age verification, protecting us, while if we wish to continue running this forum, I would be subject to asking all users from the UK for ID - which I plainly won't do.

Also, the Discord server has no affiliation with DYKG anymore.
