how do i rip assets from .bin files?
#1
Question
im VERY new to any kind of ripping as its not my thing at all but ive been playing Umamusume Party Dash lately and the sprites are so beautiful. unfortunately, they arent on here so i wanted to see what i could do. so far, ive gotten like 3 sprites dont (all stolen from the website's files) that ive been respriting to be a smaller size (like to pixel scale i think? not too sure what the word is) anyway, theres a ton more sprites but all of the "asset" folder's files are .bin that i have no experience with ripping (to be fair im used to .win files and using utmt to rip them but you know what i mean) anything i can do to get the sprites from these files as these are the only files i can think of that would have the sprites. any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks !  Big Grin

(image for reference of the files, they're in the steamapps files but i did check the local game files and theres nothing there either)

Use PowerISO, DaemonTools, or AnyBurn. Try using 7Zip or WinRar if it is compressed.

bin is a very generic file archive/format and it could be housing any number of things. the thing that's gonna point you in the right direction is figuring out what kind of stuff is in those bin files; throw one of em in a hex editor, the beginning bits are called a "magic header", and going further from there you can figure out if it's compressed or whatever else. i am also very inexperienced with ripping in a lot of ways, i'm more familiar with ripping from 3DS games, so i've got no clue on how to go about ripping from a PC/mobile game

hope this little bit helps in some way ^^Sweatdrop

i feel very stupid but nothing's working,,,  closest i got was 7-zip saying this (in the image) which i THINK shows that its a different file but none of the other tools u said didnt do anyithing... winrar just extrated the bin file to a zipped folder somewhere else, poweriso said it wasnt supported, i cant get daemontools to work and anyburn installed with bloatware so i instantly got rid of it. i feel like im missing smth but also im doing everything i can so i dont know   Shocked .   thx for the help in maybe getting me somewhere w the thing 7zip said tho (and also for actually responding), hope i can sort it soon !

Can you upload some BIN files to hosting site like Google Drive or mega.nz and post a public link here?

the bin files don't seem to have any standard hex signatures, my guess is that they're either compressed or encrypted? you'll need to find some tool for decryption and/or decompression, but i'm fairly certain they're encrypted rather than compressed, since you ripped the files straight from the game folders within steam. as an example, if you go straight to the folders within OMORI, all the files will be nonsense types like ".KEL" and such, but that's because they're encrypted. through modding and decrypting, you can create a copy of everything in its proper file formats and thus get access to the actual assets (.PNGs and stuff)

**i forgot i should probably also ask what i should aim to like decrypt them into? if not just back to .bin files...   idk if im making sense here but like im not sure if theres a specific file to decrypt it into or if i decrypt back into a bin file and open it (ofc,,,, still need a decryptor since i cant find one but yeah)
