Welcome to my thread about my absolutely darling little joke game, Super Charisma Bros. 7. Rather than go on in a confusing paragraph of random bits and pieces of info, I'll just do the more sensible thing and organize some FAQs right here:

What is a joke game?
Now, this is probably self explanatory. Matter of fact, I'm not sure why I'm doing this question, but just to clarify: no, a joke game isn't a "trick game" or a "trolling game" or anything like that. A joke game is a game that isn't put together too seriously. It's made with the intent of making people laugh at the wacky jokes, surreal design, or the hilariously bizarre (and often intentionally poorly programmed) gameplay.

What's Super Charisma Bros.?
Ah, good question! Super Charisma Bros. is my own little series of joke games that I've been making on and off since very late 2012 / very early 2013. It's been quite a while since the last one (and a lot has changed since then too), but very recently I've been working on yet another wacky adventure that no one actually wants!

Okay, but the 7 thing - that's like, a sequel joke, right?
You would think! Like I said, I've already made a few SCB games, and this happens to be the seventh entry in the series!

Why should I care about this?
If you like to have a good laugh, probably? I dunno, you got me!

Okay, I know about the Super Charisma Bros. games and what not, so that's why I'm asking this question... didn't the people who inspired you to make these games (and help with the odd sprite and soundtrack, as well as appear in the games) stop talking to you for whatever reason?
Unfortunately, yes. What about it?

...are they cool with appearing in this?
They're not appearing at all, for you see: Super Charisma Bros. 7 sports an entirely new cast of characters! That is, save for Dudim, the series mainstay and a weird mishmash of an author avatar and author... pet or... uh, something.

Where can I play the previous games in the series?
Since it probably won't take too much time out of your day, I urge you to go check 'em out in this big all-in-one-wacky-charismatic-fun-pack that I souped up just now! Hooray, truly everyone wins!

Sooo... back to SCB7, what have you got of it so far?
See for yourself

It seems like SCB7 is almost a step back after playing 5 and 6. What happened there?
To be honest with you, I was decidedly not too keen on adding that much polish to these really simple, goofy games; if it weren't for the pressure of certain people fighting for a more refined / 'indie' experience, 5 and especially 6 wouldn't have been so "clean". SCB7 is going to go back to the series' roots, in that sense.

Alrighty then, that looks about complete there! Any questions? Comments?

Heya all!

Thought it was about time I posted something on my latest project.

MLP: Revenants of Chaos

Revenants of Chaos is a My Little Pony fangame centered around speed and flight. There will of course be some slower and more restrictive stages, though a majority of the game will have large open levels where the player can fly around at high speeds and explore.

STORY:

The story begins with Applebloom borrowing a book from Twilight Sparkle about Princess Reverie, an Alicorn princess who had the power to draw out a pony's potential and reveal their cutie mark. Included in the book was a map to the princess's castle and, at Scootaloo's suggestion, they ask Rainbow Dash to investigate for them. Rainbow Dash reluctantly agrees and flies to the castle only to find it in ruin with a number of Canterlot guards defending the entrance.
The guards explain to Rainbow Dash that they do not know what lies within, only that it's certainly ominous. On realizing that Rainbow Dash is one of the hero's from Ponyville that fought in the Changeling invasion, they allow her to explore the inside of the castle.

The castle is filled with dark crystals that seem to be growing in the cracks like strange weeds. Eventually Rainbow Dash reaches the throne room where she finds a pony encased in the dark crystals, begging her to smash the crystal and release her. Noticing the pony's wings and horn, Rainbow Dash realises that this was the Princess the CutieMark Crusaders were talking about and she agrees to help her.
With a powerful buck, Rainbow Dash shatters the crystal but is sent flying into a pillar by a powerful burst of energy and falls to the ground unconcious.

The rest of the Mane6 and Princess Celestia herself arrive just after that moment only to encounter Nightmare Revenant, the dark and twisted form of the once peaceful ruler, driven insane by over a thousand years imprisoned in a realm of madness. They attempt to stop her but are all turned to stone, leaving the Madness Spirits, Nightmare Revenant and her army to escape and start an Equestria-wide attack.

When Rainbow Dash finally wakes, she finds her friends and her princess encased in stone... Now it's up to her to travel accross Equestria. regain the scattered Elements of Harmony and defeat Nightmare Revenant and her Madness Forces.

GAMEPLAY:
Gameplay video: http://youtu.be/6j-ClSI2mto

The game can be likened to a modern Sonic game, if Sonic were given wings, with speed being the key feature. You run and fly around collecting gems to boost your speed and allow you to fly for longer and collect apples to recover lost health and gain extra lives. Rainbow Dash's main means of attack is to dash into the enemy at high speed, to kick the enemy or to stomp on top of the enemy, early stages will have enemies that won't be much of a threat if you keep moving fast, but around the third level you'll start encountering enemies that will try to use your speed to their advantage and you'll have to consider other ways in which to defeat them.

At maximum speed Rainbow Dash will perform a Sonic Rainboom which acts as a screen clearing attack and grants the player a temporary acceleration boost as well as an unlimited amount of Dash Power (the energy gathered from the gems that allow you to dash and fly) for a short amount of time.

Within each level are six Reverie Emblems, rainbow coloured stars with white wings, and collecting all of them will send the player to a special stage on the level's completion, where they'll be able to collect one of the 30 Harmony Gems. For every 6 Harmony Gems, they will be fused into one of the Elements of Harmony and the collection of all of them is required to access the final "world" and to get the true ending.

POST WORD AND STUFF:

For the game, we are using the Desktop Ponies style for the characters and our own unique tilesets. Many new animations for Rainbow Dash have been designed specifically for the game and we're making lots more which we plan to release to the community shortly after our release.

We are always on the look out for more pixel artists, especially those who are skilled with tileset work. If you are willing to help, you can contact me via pm or on my Skype, my name is Okamikurainya there. We are also looking for testers and those that specialize in GUI design. We hope to get the game out soon, I'll keep posting updates when I can.

So, I think it's time I talk about XYG Studio here. What is it? It's a runtime-based game development kit using SDL (with optional OpenGL) for rendering, Squirrel for the scripting language, and a number of other free libraries like NFont for pixel fonts and SPriG for drawing primitives and transforming graphics.

Because it's runtime-based, like Java, games written in it will work on any platform the RE has been ported to without the game itself needing to be recompiled (with the exception of controls and whatnot). The runtime environment will probably be open-source, to help with porting to other systems, but I should be able to put it on all the platforms the IDE will run on myself.

The IDE itself will be written with a mix of GTK and SDL so it can be run on Windows, Mac, Linux and Open Pandora/Pyra. It will feature a very Game Maker-like design, but with some fundamental differences in how resources will be handled and such. Games will also be able to be exported with executables, but the native format will offer a greatly-reduced size, since only user-made code and resources will need to be included.

Rather than have a bunch of built-in variables and automatically-run functions that are impossible to fully bypass without creating junk data/overhead, I plan to make as much built-in stuff as possible able to be removed. Even the most basic program flow can be altered using the main start, loop, and end scripts. I also plan to address and solve Game Maker's other inefficiencies as well and try to make this as fast and versatile as possible.

I may or may not make it open-source; I'm not sure yet, but either way, it will definitely be free, with funding coming in through donations.

Currently, I have graphics loading, keyboard input, line hit detection, a VERY versatile point class, and a sprite class that can transform/flip/rotate. I know sound is a pretty basic feature, but I think it's also pretty non-essential at this point, so I'm focusing on the shape collision and script VM before I get on to that. Once the scripting works, I'll release the runtime and a test IDE so people can try it out.

Super Arisa Land is my 'sandbox' for programming. I'll be posting stuff here as I learn programming techniques. Of course, you can play and check it! The purpose of this thread is to have fun controlling Arisa and maybe learning one thing or two. The game is being programmed in Game Maker: Studio. So far there's not much, but you can already have fun controlling Arisa.
Hello! The name's DragonDePlatino and this is my first ROM Hack! Dig Dug Redug (working title?) was made over the course of 4 days using JNES, YY-CHR and a hex editor called "NES Palette Editor". My first foray into the world of ROM hacking, I wanted to start with something simple but still fun. I learned a lot along the way, and really feel I've come out as a more experienced artist. Comment and critique, please!

STORY:
Kyrodian Legends is a game series that tells of the edventures of a group of very different people. The first installment focuses on Midi Waffle, a squirrel with an uncanny talent for destructive magic, who joins the Cloud Chasers mercenary faction as a means to get by and search for clues to the whereabouts of his missing parents.

During his adventure, he fights the Colt Front, a faction composed entirely of penguins, and races to keep them from unearthing a weapon that would give them absolute power.

GAMEPLAY:
The gameplay revives the style of Zelda 2 and Gargoyles Quest in that the perspective switches from overhead to side-scrolling during combat. Rather than grinding for experience, however, players are rewarded for exploration, like in Metroid, and some areas are entirely platform-based.

Random encounters will serve as a means to gather funds and populate non-peaceful regions with monsters. Some small caves and dungeons will exist where these occur, as well as for combat-related quests to take place. If a puzzle having to do with the overhead view is active, random encounters will be disabled.

Side quests exist as contracts that can be taken from the Cloud Chasers HQ, and reward the player with money, items and lore. Some quests will only be unlocked when certain conditions are met, like a new area being found, or having completed a prerequisite contract. The main questine will not require these to be completed to move forward, and upon the game's completion, the player can continue to explore and play these quests.

Travelling is done via airship, and new destinations are unlocked per the story's requirement. Some areas offer local transport to places where an airship cannot land.

Stats are enhanced by equipping runestones. Aside from boosting stats, some may have other effects, such as night vision, faster movement speed, or lowering the chance of a random encounter. These tradeoffs encourage players to manage their resources. Runestones can only be equipped/unequipped in the overhead view, or in a "safe" area, not in combat.

New abilities are learned from enemies that use them or similar moves. For instance, defeating a penguin ninja, who uses a sliding attack, will teach Midi how to slide.

DEVELOPMENT:
So far, I only have graphics and story work done. I won't be able to program the game until I have XYG's runtime working enough to start testing, which shouldn't be too long; I just have to finish a few classes and then tie some functions to the Squirrel VM. Once that's done, I can begin coding.

If anyone wants to help, I'm looking for monster, vehicle and structure designers who are willing to work by commission. I'll handle spriting the assets myself; I'm just looking to buy some concepts.

In my spare time I've been working on a game that combines elements of Castlevania, Ducktales, and Super Mario Bros 2. I've been doing some of the artwork, but the level artwork was commission for a friend who needed some money. Besides that, I've also been doing concept art and all of the level design.

The setting of the game is inspired by the American mid-west and the gold rush.

I've also felt that I can speed up production by scouting for talent for anyone who would be interested in paid work to improve sprites or make new ones. The main goal is making an authentic looking NES style game, so everything is being done in the NES limitations (with rare artistic license). Right now this is a game being done when I have time (or just plain feel like it), so sprites would be commission.

This is the only spriting community I really remember or know about, so I figured this would be a good place to start seeking help.

So if this interests you, throw me a PM or add me on Skype (sondrogomez).

These were early tests made in Clickteam Fusion 2.5, but the game is being considered to moving to Construct 2 for its Wii U compatibility. The Castlevania style physics will also probably be done away with for something more along the lines of Zelda II or Super Mario Bros 2.
This joke project's story is really weird and complex, so I'll do my best at
explaining it.

All the elements in this project was planned in a chat with tSR people I
frequent, and they were all originated because of random jokes that... were
taken seriously by me.

First of all, I need to explain the 'genderbent' version of Gilbert. I designed
her after people saying that I 'wasn't anime enough to watch anime' with them.
I promptly responded with a sketch of gilbert with twintails, which caused some
hilarious reaction and ended up becoming a running gag of the chat.

The genderbent Gilbert didn't have a fixed name, so people referred her as
'Girls', 'Girlsal', 'Girlbert' and other stuff. I thought that those names were
dumb, so I settled up with 'Arisa' as her name. (Being an anime girl version
of Gilbert, nothing more appropriate than naming her after a series of Japanese
rifles and ammo cartridges, Arisaka). I also placed her definitely in the
Bullethead cast as Gilbert's manga-loving, 'tsundere' sister.

This new name spawned some Touhou jokes (Arisa being just one letter far from
Marisa). Sploder even went as far as drawing her and the whole chat's reference
characters with Touhou clothes. This served as the base to make Super Arisa Land,
a parody of the Touhou fangame Super Marisa Land.

At the same time, Sengir has told us a very... peculiar dream I'll spare you the
details from, and that caused more jokes to surface. Then, we noticed that
Sengir wasn't 'moe' enough for the chat, so with the members' help, I created
Sengi~, the girl version of Sengirbug. Naturally, she got paired with Arisa and
eventually, this joke project was born.

Super Arisa World is a parody game, referencing not only Mario, but several other
classic games and TSR jokes. Playing as a familiar platformer game, but with
several quirks and gameplay differences, in order to make this a new, fresh
experience, Super Arisa World aims to entertain the gamers with colorful, fun
graphics with cute cartoony characters and happy music.

Everyone lived in peace in TSROPOLIS. But for this game to happen, something
bad was needed. So, Vipershark started kidnapping all girls from the city.

For an even unexpainable reason, Crappy Blue Luigi is the only one who knows
about this tragedy, and promptly asks Gors and Sengir, the local heroes,
for help.

Sadly, a game starring both Gors and Sengir would be so radular and the world
wouldn't be ready for such awesomeness. So they had to come up with lousy
excuses such as "I'm studying Mandarin" and "I'm too busy spriting". Crappy Blue
Luigi then shrugs, and wonders who could bring back peace in the spriter's land.

"Crap... Who is going to save tSR now..."

He then hears some happy chatter. It was Arisa and Sengi~, taking a walk without
knowing they were in danger.

"Arisa! Help us! Vipershark has kidnapped all the imoutos in tSR! Please save
them from being transformed into dakimakuras..." - Crappy Blue Luigi

I have no idea why he didn't mention Sengi~ in that line, but nevertheless,
both girls decided to kick Vipershark's butt and save the captive girls from
his clutches...

The game is set in the fictional city of TSROPOLIS, ruled by Dazz, the Mayor.
Many people from different countries live there, developing the city further.

The city has a Maid Café run by Kagguya. However, it's in the verge of
closing due to lack of customers, which worries her a lot.

The city is surrounded by green plains and icy mountains, and an imponent,
floating castle serves as Vipershark's hideout. There, he plots on transforming
all the girls into body pillows.

It's said that a Legendary Hero used to protect the city, but she has not
been active since Vipershark's attacks... Where would she be?

The cast is varied and represents the forum users. Some of the characters in
this game are:

> ARISA BULLETHEAD

A shy and introverted, green bullet girl. Despite that, she is Sengi~'s best
friend. She decides to save TSROPOLIS from Vipershark's clutches, after Crappy
Blue Luigi told her and Sengi~ about the crisis. She loves manga and will do
anything to get ahold of them, and because of that she can act really rude at
times. However, she really cares about her friends.

> SENGI~ BUG

A happy and cheerful female pink beetle with bright blue hair, with a sidetail
tied with a white bow. She loves spending time with her friend, Arisa, and
likes listening to poppy, cute music and eating sweets. Due to her air-headed
nature, she is prone to accidents and forgetting important stuff, a trait that
makes her get bad grades at the school. Nonetheless, she tries hard to keep up
with the school pace and be friends with everyone.

> GILBERT BULLETHEAD

Arisa's brother, a green bullet that wears a brown leather jacket. Usually
nonchalant, but does his job of taking care of TSROPOLIS at the town hall
quite well. Manages events and destroys ad-bots in his free time. Hopes to do
more for the community, but he is always balancing responsibilities with tired-
ness.

> SENGIR 'CHUCK' BUG

Sengi~'s brother. Also takes care of the city, but would rather spend time
studying anthropology and programming small apps. Doesn't talk much, but when
he does, it usually is to crack a pun into the conversation. Enjoys listening
to Bob Dylan.

> CRAPPY BLUE LUIGI

The man in blue. Gilbert's musical bro, gifted with smooth moves and even
smoother talk. He left the city some time ago, but returned only to see the
city having many cases of kidnapping. He soon seeks for help.

> SERENNA KAGGUYA MUTSUKKI

A pretty, shy and clumsy maid that runs a Maid Café in the town. She loves her
little brother and does everything to him. Due to her clumsiness, she often gets
into trouble... Her speciality is making sweets.

> VIPERSHARK

The antagonist of this game. A sick fiend who enjoys trapping pretty girls
for his amusement. He intends to transform them all into dakimakuras for his
evergrowing collection. A huge otaku, it is said that half of the rooms in his
enormous castle is to store and organize his anime-related merchandise.

> BELLE LEBEL

A yellow bullet girl with a strong sense of justice. Hailing from The Schools
Resource's rival school, intends to save the city by herself so she can get
all the praise. Often overlooked and mistaken by others as Arisa, she wants to
show everyone that she is capable of doing great things. Highly athletic, her
moves are alluring and precise, making her a formidable rival for Arisa.

> MISA RILLE

A German missile girl with white skin and blonde hair in twin braids. Also
studies in Royal Arsenal High, and is Belle's classmate and friend. Misa is
gentle and sweet... Until someone ticks her off. If she gets annoyed or doesn't
get what she wants, she gets extremely rude and literally explodes in anger,
burning anything around her. Thus, she is kinda spoiled and stubborn.

Control Arisa, Sengi~ and Belle through levels full of platforming action, jumping and defeating monsters!

Hello everyone, TrinitroMan from Fusion Fangaming is here, and I'm working on a crossover of Super Mario and Touhou Project, made with Hello Engine 5.1, which I have modified for that game.
Here are some screenies:

The Story:
One night, Marisa Kirasame, a human magician from Gensokyo, and her neighbour, the seven-colored magician youkai Alice Margatroid, discover a green pipe in the Forest of Magic. After entering it, they somehow ended up being in the Mushroom Kingdom. And now, they need to find a way out.

Also, here is what I have done so far:
Multi character system: 100%
-Marisa: 99%
-Alice: 0%
-Secret Post-Release DLC character: 0%
New NPC system: 90% (I still haven't tested out this system to its full capability yet)
SMB2 enemies (including bosses): 85% (needs StiltGuy, FryGuy and bug fixes on Albatoss)
Super Item System: 90% (there is a bug with a projectile)
Subspace System: 50% (I still need to code the Sphere Doomer)

And here is the world list:
W1: Mushroom Kingdom
World 1-1 (Grass Gradiation): 99%
World 1-2 (Goomba Underground): 95% (completely revamped, main level design completed, needs bonus rooms)
World 1-3 (Nipper Nitpicks): 10% (starting the revamp, still need to code the wandering nipperplant)
World 1-4 (Brick Break): 99% (needs some touching up)
Toad Town: ??% (I have no idea, how much I have finished this, because it's an NPC town, but I barely started work on it)
World 1-Fort (Fort Koopa): 80% (level design mostly completed, only needs Bowser right now)
World 1-5 (Shoes and Hammers): 95% (currently balancing the difficulty)
World 1-6 (*secret name*): 99% (only needs a tiny cutscene before the boss battle begins)
World 1-7 (Spikey Rain): 5% (started to work on this level)
World 1-Castle (Abadoned Castle): 0%
Yellow Switch Palace: 0%
W2: Sarasaland (SML1-3 and Wario Land 2-4)
World 2-1 (Birabuto Begins): 1%
Red Switch Palace: 0%
W3: Dreamful Skies (SMB2 and Paper Mario)
Green Switch Palace: 75%
W4: Celsius Kingdom (fire & ice)
Blue Switch Palace: 10%
W5: Isla Delfino (Beach-themed)
Orange Switch Palace: 10%
W6: Industrial Square
Black Switch Palace: 0%
W7: Tainted Toadstool (Shroob Hideout)
World 7-1 (Foul Fungi): 90%
Purple Switch Palace: 0%
W8: Koopa Kingdom

W9 (Post-Release DLC Bonus World): Gensokyo

Currently, the team consists of three people:
-TrinitroMan (coding and level design)
-EvilMariobot (Touhou Major Characters spriting)
-Kirbio (Touhou Minor Characters (enemies) spriting and Sphere Doomer)

Eitherway, this project is NOT dead. I'm still working on it. Slowly, but steadily.
I would still like to have some help in terms of externalized music (I'm using GMFMod Simple, and I'm not going to switch).

Anyway, I hope, you like it.
