Width Override

Hi all! I'm not sure how many of you would actually care about a feature like this but I had a random idea the other day and decided to add it in as an experiment. So for those of you who are logged in, you can now override the width of the main site layouts. For those that want to return to the old fixed width (980px) or those who have huge screens and want less wasted space on the left and right, head on over to your edit profile (which is available from the user box or mobile navigation menu from all sites) and you should see the new "Width Override" option.

In the current setup, the sites take up 85% of your available screen width and cap out at 1860px (which is enough to fit exactly 10 sheet icons across in one row). You can mix and match them to tailor the experience to your tastes a bit though. For instance, if you want the old width back, you'd set width to 980px and max-width to either default or anything larger than 980px. Or, if you have a big screen and want it to take up 85% and not stop at 1860px, set the max-width to 85% and leave width at default (or set both to the same percentage if you want a larger or smaller area).

Like I said, this was more just about being a fun experiment for me but hopefully, at least a couple of you find it useful. Just keep in mind that it only applies if your screen width is already 1200px or greater - the rest of the responsive layout features kick in at under 1200 as usual.

New Feature: Pending Submission List!

Hey everyone! One of the most common suggestions we get is to make it possible to see pending submissions on the site. Sometimes, the request is just made out of curiosity but most of the time, it's from a ripper who wants to make sure they're not wasting time ripping something that has already been submitted. This latter reason is more than reasonable but we still can't just show the queue to the public as doing so would defeat the purpose of having it to begin with.

As of today though, members can now see a list of just the names of pending submissions to a given game. For approved games, you can see it both in the footer info box of the game's page and on the submission form to add new content to the game. For pending games, since there is no actual game page yet, this new list is only available from the submission form. In both cases, it's hidden by default and can be toggled on and off so as not to clutter the page if there are a ton of pending submissions.

Hopefully this compromise satisfies those of you who want this feature to make sure they're only ripping new content. Honestly, I'm not sure why I didn't do this particular implementation sooner.

As a quick side note, both the site's CSS and JavaScript were updated to implement this so a hard refresh or a cache clear will likely be needed to get it to work properly. If anyone has any questions or feedback, please post them here!

As I'm sure those of you without AdBlock (thanks, by the way!) have noticed, the bottom-right corner video ads returned about a week ago. Unfortunately, the provider for them is being really stubborn about letting us make them behave they way we want (close at any time and auto-close when finished) so we're looking for a new provider. In the meantime, I added my own implementation to close the videos at will now. You'll need to clear your cache to let the javascript update but it should work. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to implement my own auto-close but this should at least let you get rid of them much quicker than you could otherwise. Sorry for the inconvenience! We'll get that new provider implemented as soon as we can.

Hey everyone. Over the last couple of days, I made significant changes to how the sites interact with the forum. It should all be transparent on your side but there have definitely been a few hiccups (some of you noticed them with the 500 errors or pages timing out). I'm pretty sure I've since fixed most of them but please keep an eye out for anything out of the ordinary and let me know here if you see something happening that shouldn't. Be sure to include what you were doing and the full URL to the page you were on in your report. Thanks!

Hey everyone! I probably should have done this earlier but better late than never. As I'm sure many of you are aware, we had some downtime starting on Monday and lasting into a part of yesterday. While everything is back up and seemingly working well, I'd rather play it safe so I have a full set of diagnostics scheduled for tonight beginning at 10 PM EST. I'll be taking the server offline at 90 to shut everything down and the sites down at 9 to alert everyone that doesn't see this post. I'll bring everything back up either later tonight or tomorrow morning, depending on how long the tests take. Sorry for the inconvenience and the rather late notice but hopefully, I'll see you all soon!

Hey everyone! Over the last couple of days, I've been working on adding a reporting feature to the sites (similar to what the forum offers). I'm happy to say that it's now live and should be working. You can report comments, games, and sheets by clicking the small yellow triangle you'll now see. There were a bunch of code changes to make this happen so I'd recommend refreshing a couple of times to make sure all files are up to date or else it may not work as expected.
As always, if you have any questions or spot any bugs, please let me know here!

Icon Policy Update

Hey everyone! Historically, we've always made icons an optional part of the submission process and while that isn't changing, how we address submissions without icons is.

For some background info, icons have traditionally been optional as there are some people who might not have the tools to make them properly. This was more relevant before the switch to our new icon style but still plays a part for those unable to or uncomfortable with working on transparent images. In the case of models, there are many times where it may be possible to extract a model without ever requiring 3D software which would mean that those without access to modeling software could still submit to the site even if they're unable to render a preview. We've always wanted to keep the submission process as simple as possible to encourage as many people as possible to submit and not wind up scaring people off with unnecessary requirements.

All of that said, we are often asked why it takes so long to approve new submissions and one of the major sources of delay is a lack of icons. While this is mostly true for models (which take much more time to create icons for, especially when submitted in bulk), it definitely also applies to sprites and textures where the extra time spent creating icons adds up over hundreds of submissions and really slows things down.

With all of this in mind, I just made a minor change to our submission queues. Starting today, all pending submissions will be sorted so that those with icons appear first. As always, staff is welcome to process those submissions in whatever order they choose but a visual priority will now be given to complete submissions in an effort to encourage those of you who can make icons to do so. On tMR, complete submissions will be listed first, then those with one or the other, and finally those with no icons at all and this obviously doesn't affect tSoR at all. The submission process itself will remain unchanged though - this is only for how the staff sees pending submissions.

If anyone has any questions or concerns, you're welcome to voice them here. Otherwise, thank you all for your continued support and have a great day!

As I just mentioned in this week's tSR update, Dazz and I have just finished adding in a new feature to all of the sites. Now, you can preview the files within any zip file on the site. You can't actually download or view individual files but you can get the full list of files contained in the archive. We hope this helps and as always, if you have any questions or notice anything wrong, please let us know here!

To head off the one issue I foresee coming up, you do need to refresh a couple of times to get the updated stylesheets and scripts to load before it will work correctly.

Hey guys,

I just wanted to get some feedback from you regarding the livestreams we post up on the front page of tSR. Our original intention was to make it a regularly scheduled stream, however lately we've come to terms with the limited time that we have to create content. As a result, we're trying to come up with a more solid solution with streams that will work for everyone.

We've currently settled on "specials" and streaming whenever a new Region Locked episode goes live.

So when we stream, we usually post the stream to the front page of all of the sites. However, I'm not sure we should continue with the direction the streams have gone in. What do you guys think? Should we just include the small stamp on the bottom corner to let you know we're live so that you can check it out if you really want to?
