The AI gets MUCH better in the later levels, and in Hard Mode it will whoop your ass.
As for the announcers, they say funny, witty things depending on what's happening but they tend to repeat themselves a lot, especially if you're doing the same kill repeatedly. It doesn't really hinder the game at all in my opinion.
