ripping sprites from the other smart kids series games

i discovered that the .chc files are usually seen with .scr and .pal files named the same as the .chc
while i have no idea what the .scr file could be but the .pal file might be the palettes of the sprite, just in a different format
again, i may be spouting absolute bullshit here, but i'm just trying to figure out why these compressed files are unpackable by tinke
