I think it should have more contrast and a bit dark (Super Metroid has dark sprites). Also You could use less colors on it.

The spikes look weird colored like that. It looks like some glowy thing. Use less saturated colors.

EDIT: the sprite's kinda pillowed. Fix that using an lightsource above it.
