I swear everyone's asking the same question over and over lately?
Spriting is essentially drawing with pixels. Open up Microsoft Paint, or download Graphics Gale and draw something. What you've drawn is a sprite.
Of course the quality of the drawing, in terms of size, shape, colours, etc. is important to make your sprite not suck, but that's not what you asked.
