About your Sonic sprites, they look really good but i can't help but say that you need some more contrast on his fur. I know you were trying to emulate the adventure colors but as a sprite it makes it look pretty dull. Not too much though but enough to be able to tell the details on the sprite apart.

Began making some Metal Harbor assets and did a mockup(if the Neo Green Hill Zone BG wasn't so bright, it would look better).

you could probably apply a darker palette to the background image, or start from scratch. i'd actually recommend referring to sonic 1-3k backgrounds since the graphics will be in megadrive style.
